I told myself that I wasn’t going to go too crazy during the sales this year. One reason is that I don’t have much disposable income due to paying for my wedding and changing my job recently. So when it came to the sales, I really wanted to focus on products that I’ve had my eye on for a while. I stuck to mainly beauty and fashion, but I also managed to pick up a couple of other items.
When it came to shopping for beauty in the sales, I stuck to mainly higher end purchases from Selfridges and Feelunique. I browsed the Harrods sale too which I LOVE and I normally spend a lot during their sales, but this year I resisted.
From Selfridges I picked up most of my beauty purchases. I’m a sucker for eyeshadows, and I’ve been looking for some more neutral everyday palettes for a while now. When I saw that the IT Cosmetics Superhero Eye Transforming Anti-Ageing Super Palette had been reduced to £17, I just had to pick it up! The palette is a mixture of matte, satin and shimmer finishes, and I’ve heard quite positive reviews. The key thing for me this year with regards to beauty products is that I find them wearable and easy to apply. I like the layout of this palette and that it’s fuss-free. I’ll keep you updated on what I think about the palette.
I also picked up an Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter liner in the shade Punk Rock (an iridescent brown glitter that was new for Christmas 2017). These liners are great for adding a touch of glitter to an eye look without the mess and they last all day too! I picked up the liner for just £10 in the Selfridge’s sale.
Another palette I picked up in the Selfridge’s sales, is the Cover FX Perfect Light Highlighting Palette which I purchased for just £21 (originally £41). If you know my beauty content well, then you know that I love a good highlighter. When I saw this palette had been reduced, I snapped it up as I’d had my eye on this for a few months now. I’m already a fan of the Cover FX highlighters, as I’ve got one of the single pans already, so I’ve been patiently waiting for this palette to be released and reduced. These highlighters are definitely the type that appear to melt into the skin, without leaving much glitter residue. Although on the Selfridge’s website, this palette is now sold out, you can pick it up here for a reduced price.
Contour and Blusher
Lancome recently released their Teint Idole Contouring palette which looked like it would work well for my skin tone. This was quite a new release so I was surprised to see it in the sales so soon. It comes with a matte bronzer, matte contour and matte highlight powder. I’ll be sure to review this for you soon.
The Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Blush Palette by Urban Decay has been on the market for a while now, and at first I wasn’t too enticed by it. But after playing around with it in store, I quickly realised how well it actually worked for my skin tone. The palette comes with a bronzer, two blushers, and a highlighter. It will be great for travelling, and I intend to keep it in my makeup bag. I also love the packaging, which depicts images from Jean-Michel Basquiat’s famous artwork. The palette was on sale for just £13.50 in the Selfridge’s sale.
The final product I picked up from the Selfridges sale was the Lancome Olympia Le Tan Matte Shaker in the shade 1976 (a warm purple). I’ve had a couple of the Lancome shaker’s before, but I’ve never tried the matte version. I was pleased to be able to pick this up for just £9.50! I’ve always walked past the Lancome counters and been intrigued by these lip products – especially as the original were more of a pigmented lip oil. I’ll have to try it out and share my thoughts with you in the near future.
In the Feelunique sale I decided to pick up a couple of foundations. I was so glad to see that Lancome had finally released Teint Idole Ultra Wear stick foundation earlier last year. I had already tried the foundation, after ordering it from the USA back in 2016, but of course in the UK we had to wait a long time before we could get it. This is my favourite stick foundation, as when I wear it I don’t find my face to get too oily. In fact, it’s one of the only stick foundations I’ve used that holds my oils in well. It’s also quite a small package which makes it great for travelling and stick foundations are just much more easier to apply. I was so glad to be able to pick this up for just £15 in the shade Praline.
The last foundation I picked up was the Urban Decay Naked Skin One and Done Hybrid Complexion Cream. This is a product I’ve been curious about. I actually think it’s more like a BB Cream. As I mentioned previously I’m looking for simple, easy to apply and wear makeup for 2018 and this looks perfect. As a BB Cream it doesn’t give much coverage but can even out my skin tone. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about this product, so couldn’t resist when it was in the Feelunique sale for just £12.50!
Fashion and other items
As well as beauty items, I also did a bit of shopping on the Monki website and Boohoo. From Monki I picked up a couple of thick jumpers and jumper dresses. My favourite is this pink ‘Woman Believer’ jumper which just looks so cosy. I also picked up a grey jumper dress and a purple jumper dress. I love the jumper dresses from Monki. They’re big and baggy and so comfortable to wear. I’m an easy fashion type of person, so the Monki website is right up my street (well the jumper / dresses side anyway!) I also find that when they have their sale items they are definitely worth a look.
From Boohoo I ordered a few denim items. I’ve always wanted an embroidered denim jacket so was glad to see them stock this one in their plus size range. I also picked up a pair of ripped jeans which is quite different to my regular style. I’ve never really had any ripped jeans, so I’m looking forward to styling them in the spring time. Finally I picked up a pair of studded boots, which look great on, but I’ll be honest and say that after wearing them a few times they do tend to pinch my feet a little.
The last, quite random item I picked up is a slow cooker. I’m so radical, I know. I’ve been watching and reading quite a few slow cooker recipes online and wanted to try a few of them out. I saw that Amazon had this Morphy Richards 48709 Slow Cooker for £19.99 down from £49.99.
