When it comes to beauty finds, I get excited when I see a new brand release from black owned businesses. Juvia’s Place have been around for a while now, but they’ve recently seen a huge surge in their online popularity. I first heard about them over a year ago and I decided to try out their first palette ‘The Nubian’ – and I haven’t looked back! I committed myself to collecting their eyeshadow range and so far I’ve kept up with that ‘challenge’ (even after clearing out so much of my beauty hoard!) – but their latest release ‘The Magic’ palette is one that definitely took my breath away (for a second or so!).
Juvia’s Place are well known for their highly pigmented eyeshadows, as well as the fact that they theme their palettes around African heritage (which I love!). Their palettes are generally quite colourful with great transition shades for deeper skin tones – and that’s key to me. All of their shades work on deeper skin tones like mine.
The Magic palette is ‘inspired by the moon and sun goddesses of the wilds. A beautiful fusion of cool and warm tones. Vibrantly infused with 16 ultra pressed pigments. Perfect for day to night time looks’. It is a mixture of bright shimmers and mattes, with some deep colours to keep a balance. I was particularly excited to see that they have included a dark matte purple and navy which is not that common in palettes. There are a total of 16 shadows with 6 of them being mattes, and the rest a shimmery metallic finish.
Aside from the quality of the shadows, the artwork on this packaging is beautiful. The palette retails for $35 on the Juvia’s Place website. As I am based in the UK postage was $19 (!) and I received a £16 customs charge (major *eye roll*). It took about 7 days in total for my palette to arrive via DHL.
I highly recommend you trying out palettes from Juvia’s Place – oh and if you search around you’ll find various discount codes for 10% off!
