I’ll be honest and say that it’s been a while since I’ve been really excited about a Too Faced release. Over the past couple of years, I’ve not been too keen on the quality of their palettes. When I saw a sneak peek video of their new Chocolate Gold bar palette, I couldn’t help but want it.
Too Faced recently opened their first ever store and luckily for me it was in London! I wrote all about my time at the store here so be sure to check it out. Whilst on my shopping trip I decided to pick up quite a few products from their store.
The Too Faced Chocolate Gold palette is described as ‘a luxurious gold and cocoa powder-infused eye shadow palette that smells as good as it looks. Have a major metallic moment with foiled shadows that are created with real gold for an epic high-shine finish that’s paired with rich, seductive mattes for coffee to cocktails wear. All shadows feature a soft, velvety texture with full coverage payoff. The entire palette is infused with skin-loving cocoa powder for a decadent chocolate scent.’
This palette is part of a collection called Chocolate Gold, which comprises of a highlighter, bronzer, gold-infused lip gloss, glitter and of course this palette.
The Chocolate Gold Bar palette is made up of 16 eyeshadows in total. True to Too Faced form, the palette is comprised of 14 0.03 Oz pans and 2 larger 0.06 Oz eyeshadows. The palette is made up of 4 matte shades, with the rest being metallic foiled shadows. Apparently each foiled shadow contains real gold (I’m not sure what the percentage is, but enough for them to make the claims!).
The packaging of this palette is quite different to the other Chocolate Bar palettes they’ve released. The outside of the new palette has more of a heavy plastic feel too it, whilst the other palettes are in a sturdy tin packaging. You also can’t miss the stunning gold detail on the outside. The clasp of the new packaging is a lock closing, whereas the older palettes have a magnetic closing. I also love that the new palette has a full size mirror, compared to the older palettes which have smaller mirror cut-outs. Apart from that the palettes are a similar size. Although the larger eyeshadow pans in the new palettes are 0.01 Oz smaller than the older palettes.
I’ll say it from the start. I really enjoyed how these eyeshadows performed. They definitely have a new feeling to them, and seem to perform better than the Too Faced shadows I’m used to. My favourite formula is definitely the metallic foiled shadows. They are soft and buttery, and perform well with our without wetting. They are extremely pigmented and they give off a beautiful sparkle. As they are metallic and sparkly, they do have some fall out, so I’d recommend dampening the shadows to prevent this.
My favourite shadows in the palette are:
*Chocolate Gold (a pure gold metallic shadow)
*Holla For A Dolla (golden taupey brown with a metallic finish)
*Old Money (a metallic orange gold)
*Love & Cocoa (a metallic copper)
*Drippin’ Diamonds (a pure silver metallic)
*Classy & Sassy (a metallic peachy brown)
As you can see I’m loving all of the metallics! My favourite of the matte shades is Cocoa Truffle (a warm brown), as it works well as a subtle transition shade for me. I also enjoy using Decadent, which is a pigmented black shadow.
I’ll definitely give these a massive thumbs up and will definitely recommend it as an option. This is a sweet smelling palette – more like a vanilla chocolate scent. The palette is also sweet tasting too (although I don’t recommend you doing so!). Also it’s nearly Christmas so it’s the perfect time of year to place this on your wishlist!
The limited edition Chocolate Gold Bar Palette retails for £39 and can be found here online or instore in the new Too Faced Carnaby Street store.
