Engagement ring on notebook

So this diary entry hasn’t really gone to plan! I had all of the intentions in the world to give you a fortnightly (at least) wedding update. Since we last spoke, so much has been done but yet there’s still a LOT more to get done.

A Quick Update

If you’ve read my previous post, then you know I already chose my dress (if not then check out this post). A couple of months ago I found the ‘perfect’ bridesmaids dresses and all at a sale price too! I personally didn’t want my bridesmaids forking out much for their dresses, but I also wanted their dresses to be classy and not too ‘bridal’ so that they can wear the dress again for future events. I was so glad when I found their dresses in the popular high street chain Dorothy Perkins, and I can’t wait to share the pictures with you! My chief bridesmaid’s dress was more expensive, but I gave her the freedom to choose a dress she loved (as long as it matched my colour scheme). She picked a beautiful dress from ASOS and it’s definitely a dress she can make use of again.

My veil is something I have purchased – well veil options. I’m not particularly keen on spending a lot on my veil, so I’ve been looking for some budget alternatives. I initially bought a very cheap veil from eBay, as it was recommended by someone and looked stunning on her. However, when the veil arrived it was too long and it was white when I need an ivory veil. So I decided to check out the website JJsHouse and picked a couple more veils with pearl detailing on them. They were more expensive than the eBay veil, but still very affordable. I still haven’t decided which one I like!

We’ve also sorted out a lot of other things including the photographer, DJ, caterer, invitations, hair and makeup and we bought our wedding bands this past weekend. I’m thinking of creating a checklist so keep a look out for that in a future post!

Yet To Complete

With regards to my accessories, I’m still shopping around. I was gifted a beautiful tiara from my chief bridesmaid (THANK YOU!), but aside from that everything else is yet to be found. I’m on the hunt for silver shoes and ivory shoes – I’ve seen some I like, but not yet fallen in love with any. The groom and groomsmen are yet to go shopping for their own suits. To say that I’m not a tad bit concerned we’re leaving things to the last minute would be an understatement!

There are many other tasks to complete that I can’t possibly list them here. But I have made a personal to do list which we are slowly working through.

Not So Smooth Sailing

There’s still so much to do and I’ll be honest there was a moment when I hated hearing the word ‘wedding’. I’m trying not to let the stresses of wedding planning get to me, but honestly it’s been tough. I’m so grateful for my family as they have been central in helping with the wedding, but surprisingly for me this period has really taught me about friendship.

I’d always thought planning your wedding was a time when your friends were just as excited for you and willing to help. Unfortunately, I can say that the number of friends that I’ve had supporting during this time can be counted on one hand (and you wouldn’t even need the full hand to do so). It really did upset me, but then I realised that this is a time in life when your friendship groups go through major changes.  Although painful, it’s something that happens to most people.

Wedding Checklist

With less than 6 months to go I decided to put together a very quick checklist for you of what I think is essential to have sorted at this time:

  1. Set a date
  2. Have your venue found, booked and deposit paid for
  3. Meet with your church / or other religious organisation / registry office to get official requirements sorted
  4. Buy your wedding dress
  5. Send out your save the dates
  6. Sort your gift lists in store (register, not your actual gifts!) – e.g. John Lewis
  7. Book your caterer / or sort catering with your venue
  8. Choose your bridesmaids / groomsmen
  9. Have your bridesmaids dresses sorted / Groomsmen suits can be sorted after this or around the same time
  10. Book your photographer
  11. Book your DJ
  12. Have your wedding invitation list ready / invitations should be in the works

When it comes to weddings, a lot of services need a decent notice time for you to book them. So you must be prepared to shop around early!

Hopefully you’ve enjoyed this update. There’s still so much to fill you all in on, but I’ll leave that for a future post.

Oh how exciting for you! It’s hard not to let the stress get to you, but I managed to plan two weddings without getting too snowed under! We did most of ours by ourselves, I actually really enjoyed the planning side other than the table plan!

How exciting for you. I love seeing wedding pictures and think is is amazing how much planning goes into making it such a special day. I hope you get more support as your big day gets closer. It is hard when friendships fade away, especially at a time when they are so needed.

Stress is a major part of wedding planning, sadly . I never experienced it myself , as my hubby organised our wedding in three weeks thanks to Don’t Tell the Bride but I have been bridesmaid for my sister and the stress she was under was huge. It will all be beautiful on the day , that much I know for sure !!! Six months will fly ! Exciting times ahead of you , take the time to enjoy it !!! X

How exciting that there’s now less than six months to go! It can be a stressful time but I’m sure you’ll start to enjoy it once most of the planning is done and the big day gets closer.

Eeeek, it’s getting close! To be fair, it seems like you’ve got pretty much everything under control. I’d be terrible at this, total last minute nelly right here. It’ be running around trying to find a dress the day before.

Don’t let the dress get to you, a lot of people forget themselves when they’re planning their wedding. It’s your day, don’t forget it 🙂
