I’ll admit it – I’m no skin care expert, in fact I’ve probably neglected my skin care routine for most of my life! However turning 30 years old has kind of made me more aware of my health and skin issues and I really wanted to get into a regime that I knew I would stick too.
In the past, I’ve been guilty of going to bed with my makeup on or just using a makeup remover wipe to remove my makeup at night before bed (I know I should hang my head in shame). But recently I’ve fallen in love with a skin care routine at night and in the morning that is convenient for me and doesn’t require a thousand products.
Step 1:
My first step in the evening or morning is to cleanse my face. Now I use different products for this depending on my mood, but my staple cleansing wash has to the L’Oreal Pure Clay Purity Wash. This face wash not only cleanses, but it also purifies and mattifies skin. As I have oily skin, I love products that feel like my pores are cleansed and my skin feels mattified. After using this product my skin feels tight and quite dry so I definitely need to make sure I moisturise after.
Step 2:
After cleansing my skin, I use my Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner from the Body Shop. I’ve also wanted a toner that I felt was actually doing something for my skin, and it wasn’t until I recently picked this one up from the Body Shop that I knew I wasn’t going to try anything else! Tea tree oil is great for purifying the skin and works great on blemished skin. I’ve definitely seen a major improvement in my blemishes and hyperpigmentation. When using this product you need to ensure you give it a good shake as it contains oil-absorbing powders. The liquid is green, and I just place a small amount onto a cotton pad and sweep across my whole face and neck. No matter how much I cleanse, this toner will always pick up more impurities (evident on the cotton pad!). It definitely leaves my skin feeling refreshed and mattified.
Step 3:
With all the mattifying cleansers and toners, my skin definitely feels tight and super clean, however I do still like to keep my skin hydrated. The lovely PR at Philosophy sent me some products to try that cater towards my oily and hyperpigmentated skin. I’ve been loving the Renewed Hope in a Jar Gel Cream, which is an oil-free formula that is great for applying all your face and neck. As this is oil-free it’s perfect for those of us with oily skin to wear at night whilst sleeping and even as a day time moisturiser. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy as it just seeps into my skin and leaves me with a mattified finish but still hydrated and moisturised.
Step 4:
Last but not least I’ve started to understand the importance of using an eye cream. I used to think that eye creams were only for those over a certain age and I hadn’t reached that time yet – boy how wrong was I?! Philosophy were so kind to also send me an eye cream called Take A Deep Breath Eye. It’s an oxygenating eye cream making it great for people with dark circles and hyperpigmentation (like me). The tube is small (15 ml), however you only need a very small amount on each eye to massage around the eye area.

Thank you!
I go to bed with my make-up on every night. Is that bad??! I am so bad with proper cleansing. Lucky if I see a drop of moisturiser. Think I need to change!
I am yet to try any of these products. Will look them up.
I have used a moisturiser since being a teenager but have upped my game since hitting my 30s. I spotted my sister’s wrinkles and felt smug then caught sight of my own!
Some new ones here I’d not heard of before. But I love the Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil range!
Great to get into a good routine, sounds easy enough to do too
I love the l’oreal clay wash myself but the grey one for me, charcoal. I also love the bodyshop’s products in general, mostly the vitamin C range.
